Trip Info.... Group size can vary
from eight to twelve guests. If your group is smaller than our minimum of eight
we may be able to team you with a complimentary party. We supply top of the
line equipment for the whole group including lifejackets, first aid, cooking
essentials, eureka tents and thermarest sleeping pads. If you request we will
supply you with references close to your area. Please ask.
Transportation: Lewiston is the
nearest airport served by large airlines-Carrier Horizon Air, Boise is a little
further but an easy and beautiful drive, it is served by many major carriers..
It is best to spend the night preceding your trip either in Grangeville at
Monte's Motel (208-983-2500) or in Lewiston at the Sacajawea Motor Inn,
(208-746-1393). Grangeville is only about 20 miles from our launch while
Lewiston is about two hours drive. We can make your reservations for you, just
let us know.
To the River: Our shuttle drivers
will meet us at Hammer Cr. our launch site about 9:30 am Pacific time. It takes
about a half-hour to drive to Hammer Cr. from Monte's Motel. To get to Hammer
Cr. you drive to Whitebird, take the exit and go on through the town to a
bridge crossing the Salmon River. (about two miles) After crossing the b ridge stay right for about one mile and you will come to the
take-off point. If you have flown in as a group it is best to rent a van
service to pick you up at the airport and be taken to your motel and then on to
the river the following morning. They will then pick you up at trips end and
transport you back to the airport. We can arrange this service for you. Charges
range from $130 for individual cars to $590 for a group of 12 to be driven in a
shuttle van. If you are having a car shuttled you will be asked to fill out a
form releasing the drivers from liability. You should also be sure to have a
full gas tank and have means to pay the driver on arrival at our launch
location as we will not see them at the take-out point. Also bring an extra set
of keys. While in route to the river ( in Grangeville) you will have time to
pick up last minute items. Fishing licenses are a must ---get a 3 day license
for $35 and a couple of one day licenses. Kids under 14 yrs. old do not need a
license. Chukar hunters will need to purchase a hunting license ($81.75 upland
bird tag included) These licenses can be purchased in Lewiston at Black Sheep
Sporting goods or in Grangeville at Ray Brothers Sporting goods. Other items
you may wish to purchase are flashlight batteries, film, snacks, fishing
related gear, shells, and drinks. We supply soft drinks, plus beer and water in
each individual boat, however if you think you may drink more than the norm it
is a good idea to pick up extra. You may also let us know if there is a
specific drink the group likes and we will supply it. Remember alcohol
beverages and mix are not supplied except beer and dinner wine but everyone is
welcome to bring their favorite.
Fishing Don't worry if you've
never fished before. We have many very good fly casting instructors. The Salmon
has rainbows, steelhead and smallmouth bass. Each boat will supply trolling
tackle for steelhead. If you need a fly rod please let us know. It is best if
anglers bring their own fly rods and light spin rod if desired.
Hunting Please bring shotguns
guns you are familiar with for safety reasons. It is very important with other
hunters in the field, around camp, and in our boats that we are very careful.
If someone who is inexperienced plans to shoot please notify us so the guides
are aware of this. It is best that each hunter wear bright clothing or hat so
as to be highly visible to others.
Bird Dogs We allow one bird dog
in each boat. The owner must bring food and be responsible for the dog at all
times. There is a possibility there will be several dogs in camp so it is
important they get along with others.
Take-out We generally reach our
final destination on the fifth day about 1pm at Heller Bar on the Snake River
The guides will get all the vehicles to the river to load up everyone's
luggage. There is a small restaurant nearby if you wish to have lunch before
you get to Lewiston, you are about 27 miles from Lewiston at this time.. If
you're traveling back to Boise you have about a six hour drive. It is best to
fly out of Lewiston at this time. If you're headed to Boise you would probably
want to fly out the following day. If your destination is Lewiston make your
departure for after 3pm pacific time. You can also catch a connecting flight
from Lewiston to either Boise or Seattle.

This is as good as it gets. The food is
excellent, the company great. Meandering down the river is peaceful and
catching fish such as this is a thrill! Oh, and my husband loved it too.
